142 Galactomannan from medicinal plant Cassia Multijuga
By : Manoj Singh, J.P. Singh, Rajeev Dubey and D.S.Singh
Abstract : A water soluble galactomannan having D-Mannose (4-part) and D-Galactose (2-parts) was isolated from Cassia multijuga. In cassia multijuga Hydrolysis of methylated seed gum furnished three methylated sugars, 2, 3-di-O-methyl-D-mannose, 2, 3,6-tri-O-methyl-D-mannose and 2, 3,4,6-tetra-O-methy-D-galactose was present in molar ratio 2:3:2. Partial acid catalysed hydrolysis of the seed gum gave four oligosaccharides epimelibiose, mannobiose, galactosyl mannobiose, mannotriose along with the component sugars. Periodate oxidation and methylation studies in cassia multijuga showed 45% of end groups from the recent studies it is the concluded that galactose unit in galactomannan only terminal positions. Industrial gums (1) (Polysaccharides and their Derivatives) consumed tremendous quantities by industry.

153 A Study On Socio Economic Status Of Lalung Community In Assam With Special Reference To Sonapur Revenue Circle
By : Chafikhur Rahman
Abstract : The Lalung Tribe resides in the states of Assam and Meghalaya, north-eastern India. These tribes are divided into two main sub-divisions: those who live in the hills and those who live on the plains. The difference is due to terrain and ecology. The Lalung Tribe belongs to a race known as the Bodo. Many legends are surrounding the history of the Lalung, making their origin rather uncertain. It is has been said that their ancestors emigrated from Tibet and followed the path of the Brahmaputra River south into the hills of Assam. Later, perhaps during the mid 1600's, they migrated to the plains.
